Who We Are

The past few years, the area where I live, Crawford County, Ohio, has seen a wonderful explosion of younger families who are embracing the joys and challenges of living off the land. Because of them, amazing things are happening which have been embraced by our community. Farmer’s markets have been created and on-farm stores have opened. Families dedicated to growing organic produce and naturally raised meats are meeting the public’s needs for locally raised foods. And at the heart of this movement are the women.

Ohio Country Journal is my attempt to share the essence of farm life, focusing on, but not limited to, women. My goal is to bring you into our circle of friendship by inviting you to share your stories and experiences with us. You don’t have to be a full time country woman to benefit from joining us; you just have to be you.

The full-time country women featured in Ohio Country Journal are an inspiration to anyone who dares to follow her dreams, whether it is to live in the country or to bring the country life-style to their urban neighborhoods.

Noel's Prize Winning Recipe!

Hi All,

I enjoyed a min-vacation over the weekend with Jim and Ava. It was great to be "un-plugged" for two days (blog posts were written ahead of time and scheduled to post while I was away...gotta love modern technology!).

This morning is very cold and snowy and windy again. I am still in my "un-plugged" mode and plan to spend the day sewing. Meanwhile, Noel has agreed to be a guest blogger. From her website, Apron Free Cooking, I chose her post about winning a recipe contest because tomato soup with grilled cheese sandwiches sounds like the perfect lunch for today. :)

Congratulations, Noel, on winning and sharing the recipe.

Marcheta *gonna enjoy a heart warming lunch

Wow! Are these good tomatoes!

You know, winter in Ohio can be freezing ice and snow one minute, wet and soggy rain the next and then brilliant sunshine with frigid temperatures. And if you didn’t know that already, take my word on it.

A while back, Isabelle At Home had a contest in which she asked “If you are the winner of this Tuttorusso Tomatoes Gift Pack, what would you make?” or … words pretty close to that. You can see the real contest information by clicking here.
I replied that I would add a can of evaporated milk to make Tomato Soup and serve it with grilled quesadillas. Well, Lucky Me! I was the winner!
When I got the gift pack in the mail, I was quite impressed … check it out!

That’s a lot of good stuff!

I’m finally getting around to posting the tomato soup recipe and pictures. Today’s a perfect soup day … the weather started out at 50 degrees and windy. The temperature has dropped significantly over the morning and now, mid-afternoon we have about 35 and windy.

Soup is Good!

I love how the red tomato sauce swirls into the white canned milk as you stir it around!
